Today, we celebrated the power of kindness for World Kindness Day. We learned the “recipe of empathy”-the secret ingredients to understanding and helping others. We also read inspiring books that focused on kindness and inclusion, reminding us that a little compassion goes a long way. 🥰📚

To top it all off, we made kindness crowns—each one a symbol of how we can spread kindness in our communities. 👑 Let’s continue to share smiles, lend a hand, and make the world a better place, one kind act at a time 💕

I can’t believe I haven’t seen more books on this topic ✨

“How To Be Comfortable In Your Own Feathers” is a wonderful and uplifting picture book that encourages children to embrace who they are. The story is engaging and filled with colorful, friendly illustrations that keep young readers captivated. It delivers an important message about body positivity and self-acceptance in a way that’s simple and relatable for kids. I love how it helps children understand that everyone is unique, and that’s what makes each of us special. This book is a fantastic tool for starting positive conversations about self-esteem, confidence, and positive body image.

Have you talked to your students about popping each others’ bubbles? 🫧

In 1st grade it’s a big topic because they love giving each other hugs and they have not mastered spacial awareness yet. Some kids don’t mind but other kids can be really sensitive when they feel their personal space has been invaded.

Julia Cook had provided the greatest book AND resource guide to help your students give each other the space they need 💕

The resource guide is also great to use with your little ones throughout the year because it offers new ways to practice giving each other personal space ✨

Math or Treat has been the best holiday activity I

Math or Treat has been the best holiday activity I have ever done in my room. It is so engaging that I started doing it for Valentine’s Day too 💕

Here is how it works-
1.) Choose some math activities for your students. I chose some Cut and Glue activities, some games like Roll to 100 🎲, Color by Code activities 🖍️, etc. You can really choose any subject or activity that works best for your kids.

2.) Separate your kids into groups and have the kids rotate throughout the stations. I always tell my class it’s not about getting the answers right, it’s about doing your best and being your best. This means they are being kind, following directions, and giving their best effort.

3.) Each station is about 10 minutes and if each group does their best, they get the prize associated with that station. For Halloween, I bought some little items but you can also have plenty of prizes that don’t cost anything! You can make bookmarks, homework passes, classroom certificates, etc.

✨ I have never had a group who did not earn the prize. On a typically crazy day, this brings the students not only some excitement and fun, but the motivation keeps them on their game and adds a lot of calm and organization into the room.

Wow! Now this is a game changer 🚨📚

Social-emotional learning and instilling a growth mindset is incredibly important at any age. 💕This book has been the greatest resource, guide, lesson plan, and more. Not only does this book explain how to teach important skills and concepts to help your students build a growth mindset, you also have handouts, rewards, and resources that you can copy and use in your classroom!

Even the coloring pages are such a cool addition. When students enter the room, coloring a growth mindset page is a nice reminder of what we previously learned 🖍️

When your students do show that they have mastered these skills (and yes the book includes assessments too!) you have badges and awards for you to copy, print, and award to your students for all their hardwork🏅🏆

I love starting the school year with some of these lessons and continuing this work throughout the year ✨
