The Magic of Make Your Own Calendars

Calendars, so simple, yet so many possibilities! I love to have an updated calendar on hand because there is so much that can be done with calendars in the classroom! Here are some of my favorite activities to do with my kids when we return from winter break!

Goal Tracking

Calendars are a great way to help kids track their goals. Whether it be reading, writing, or math, calendars help your students record the progress they are making towards that goal. They can mark how many days they are reading a book, practicing their math facts, or even the days they strive to incorporate a new writing strategy into their writing pieces.

Gifts

Are you looking for an easy gift? Calendars are your answer! You can make as many as you want and make them as unique as you want them. If my students are creating a calendar as a gift, I have my students draw their own illustration on each page and mark important days on their calendar. This is such an easy, yet special gift.

Homework Record

Sometimes homework is hard to track. However, calendars are the answer to keeping a detailed record and helping your students grow their independence. Simply mark the days that homework is completed. This record helps students reflect on their work and ensure their homework record is up to date.

Building Responsibility

Building independence is one of my biggest goals with my students. Calendars can help you accomplish this goal by providing students with the opportunity to keep track of their records, progress, goals, etc. This will help your students take ownership of their learning and make more thoughtful reflections.

Reading Log

I love using reading logs as a form of motivation for my students. Calendars can help your students easily mark how many days they read a book (or even two)! When the calendar is complete, you can reward your students and they have the calendar as a keepsake to remember their amazing progress!

Hershey Christmas Fun

Have you ever been to Hershey Park at Christmas time? Every year my family and I love to stay at the Hotel Hershey in the month of December. We love the hotel during any season, but Christmas is always special. We enjoyed the hotel restaurants, the park, the decorations, and of course, the holiday shopping! I will have to make more than 1 post to give you all of the details, but we had so much fun! I would definitely recommend adding a Hershey trip to your holiday traditions!

Hershey Hotel

Are you think of staying at the Hotel Hershey? Check out my YouTube video giving you a full tour of the hotel during December! My family has been staying at this hotel since the 80’s (before I was born)! I was always in awe of the beauty and elegance of this hotel. The grounds are simply stunning and the decorations during December really put you in the Christmas spirit!

In the hotel, our favorite restaurant is The Circular! We love the breakfast buffet and all of the options. Did you know that years ago when Milton Hershey created the hotel, some customers were placed in a corner if they tipped poorly? Milton made the room circular in order to provide everyone with an optimal seat. To this day, The Circular is still round, beautiful, and a classic place to eat. You can check out the breakfast buffet offerings below!

The Chocolatier

During our vacation, we ate in Chocolate Town! I finally had the opportunity to introduce my family to the Chocolatier and they loved it! The servers were so engaging and kind. The food was great and the atmosphere was so unique. Here is a sneak peek at the restaurant offerings from my November trip!
